I may have passed on the Christmas decorations this year, but when it came to the photo for the family Christmas card, I was totally on top of it. I scoured adorable family photos on Facebook for the perfect local photographer. I picked out the most adorable outfits I could find and even coordinated the whole family. Then, to take it totally over the top, I hired a professional Santa Claus to meet us at a local farm the photographer suggested that was decorated for Christmas. Aren’t I just clever? I smugly anticipated how impressed all of my friends and family would be with our adorable, original Christmas photos. Because what’s cuter than triplet babies? Triplet babies with Santa on a farm with a goat.
Awwww. Isn’t that sweet? What you don’t know, is that all of my kids are having a complete and total breakdown in this photo. I’m pretty sure my son hit the ground in a full out tantrum seconds after this moment was captured. Props to photographer Sarah Hill for making anything out of this disaster of a day. And, of course, to Santa Tom for being so very gracious through the whole process. If you ever happen to need a Santa Claus for something, you should totally hire this guy. He’s amazing.
We were expecting an unusually warm November afternoon, but instead were graced with clouds and 33 degree weather. Yuck. Then, we left all of the jackets and blankets sitting peacefully on the couch as we stormed out the door in a flurry of chaos (also known as life, these days). Luckily, Santa and Sarah had a couple of blankets with them and we weren’t too terribly far from the car. But it was freezing. The kids had runny noses and were totally not in the mood. Our girls were wholly unimpressed with the whole ordeal. Oh, and our happy-go-lucky little boy? He pretty much scream-cried for 30 minutes straight. No joke.
It seems like every time I think I’m a little ahead of the game on this parenting thing, I am quickly humbled. There will be no “perfect” Manning family Christmas card this year. It will be much more like a glimpse into our real life. The chaotic, unpredictable, joy-filled one that we experience everyday. I shared the pictures of our Christmas photo fail with some fellow triplet moms online, and one of them said something that really resonated with me. “In 20 years, these are going to be the pictures you look back at and love the most.” You know what? She nailed it.
Merry Christmas from the Mannings!
The girls’ dresses and my shirt all came from one of my favorite stores, Hanna Andersson. I’ve posted a link below to their website and you should totally check out their amazing organic cotton pajamas while you’re there. I can’t get enough of them! If you check out my Instagram page, you’ll see that they get a lot of mileage at the Manning house. Enjoy!
