I went back and forth in my head about sharing this with you all, but I decided that it was important.
Ever since I became a mother, I’ve been unhappy with the way I look. I avoid my reflection in mirrors, delete all of the photos that expose the fact that I have a double chin, and jump out of the way of most cameras. As a result, I have very few pictures of myself with my children their first two years. That’s kinda sad.
When the triplets were small, I simply resigned myself to the idea that this season of life was for focusing on their well-being and not my own. My time will come, I thought.
Not too long ago, I noticed that my friend, Kendra, from Colorado had started a business coaching fitness. I had taken some of her fitness classes at the gym there and knew she was the real deal.
For some reason, it seemed as if Kendra’s posts were always in my newsfeed (and she most certainly was NOT an aggressive poster). I had a nagging feeling that I should contact her. So I brushed it off and made another batch of peanut butter cookies.
Out of the blue, she sent me a message that said,
I couldn’t avoid it any longer. It was time. The kids were getting older, my school schedule had slowed down significantly, and I was just tired of feeling bad about myself.
This was about 6 weeks ago. Since that time, I’ve made real, measureable progress with my health. And it wasn’t as hard as I expected. In fact, once I got into a rhythm, it started to feel really good.
Why am I sharing this? Because I find it hard to believe that my post-baby experiences are unique. In fact, I’m guessing that it’s pretty much the norm. And if I can make progress, I think anybody can do it.
The key for me has been having an actionable plan and access to a group of people who were not only holding me accountable, but also cheering me on. I’ve decided to share my fitness journey in its entirety here on my blog.
I have been using a BeachBody program called 21-Day Fix as well as the nutritional shake, Shakeology. I am currently on my second round of 21-Day Fix. Next Friday, I will share the results from Round 1 with lots of before and after pictures. The following week, I will reveal the progress I’ve made during Round 2.
I feel very vulnerable sharing this, but if I can help just one other mom push past her feelings of hopelessness, then I will have succeeded. See you next Friday.
*If you think you might be interested in pursuing some of your own fitness goals, shoot me a message through my BeachBody Website and I’ll do my best to help you out.
